Speak Up: Heart

And, of course, go see my dear friend and co-host Annie because WISDOM.

The beloved bible verse for you:
"As water reflects the face, so one's life reflects the heart."
-Proverbs 27:19

And, since I forgot to say it in my heart-filled madness, next moth's theme:
TRUTH.

With the new theme, comes more inspiration.
  • “The truth is rarely pure and never simple.”  ― Oscar Wilde
  • “In a time of deceit telling the truth is a revolutionary act.” ― George Orwell
  • “The unexamined life is not worth living.” ― Socrates
  • “The truth does not change according to our ability to stomach it.” ― Flannery O'Connor

The March Speak Up link-up will go live on Friday, March 6th!

Finally, buttons:
Mr. Thomas and Me

Mr. Thomas and Me

And for now, your turn to link and let love flow:

  1. I thought Lent was the week after?????? I haven't even thought about Lent yet. Sigh.

But I'm really impressed that you're giving up Internet in the evenings, and it's such a great idea! It's so easy in the evening to get wrapped up on the Internet and on the laptop or tablet or phone and suddenly the entire night has passed and it's time to sleep. I can't tell you how many times that's happened to me the last few weeks. Maybe I need to cut back too.

My video is coming! It's almost done uploading to YouTube. :)

  2. YOUR HEART. pure gold, my friend. LOVE your Lent plan-- with my word for this year being selah, I've been constantly thinking about being still and pausing and praising and just taking a step back from all the craziness, and love that that's exactly what you'll be doing after the sun goes down every day. goodness, you just amaze me with the relentless ways you are chasing after the Lord and seeking to know him with your whole heart. so much love.

  3. I broke my phone a couple weeks ago, and it has been really refreshing to be more present in my life. It's much easier to give people my full attention now -- and to give my thoughts my full attention, too! It's crazyyyyy how being constantly connected has made me incapable of being alone or bored for a couple of minutes -- I always reach reflexively for my phone. 40 days for you is going to intense but definitely fruitful.

I also spoke more about the spiritual aspect of heart in my video this week -- but I focused on how some heart beliefs have helped me to overcome fear.

  4. I love that verse -- such a great reminder! Our pastor shared a video last week about how we can "look" clean and be a total mess inside. We need to make our insides match our outsides // or conversely our outsides match our insides.

I haven't yet decided what to do for lent, but I'm thinking about something to DO this year instead of giving something up. With the year don"making things happen" I feel like an action is a more appropriate response.

Thanks so much for sharing and for hosting such a beautiful link up. I love seeing how the topics are interpreted so differently by each person.

  5. I really, really, really love how open-ended the prompts are. I've been meaning to join since this began, but I haven't given myself time to fully explore those words. I'm going to get a head start this time!

I love that you are focusing on heart health for Lent. I think a lot of people view Lent as a chore, or just another time of the year, but you are making it something positive. Way to be!

  6. RUMINATING. I love that word.

I love that you're eliminating social media in the evenings. I think we often fail to set healthy boundaries around our media usage and it's wise to evaluate how we're using it and how we're letting it infringe on other critical areas of our lives.

This is unrelated to your content but I LOVE YOUR GLOBE.

You're totally right: our videos are similar! I love how you talked about your life better reflecting your heart after Lent, and I think that's a critical thing to consider as we step into that season: are the steps we're taking to observe steps that will change our focus and our actions to better reflect our heart and our belief? Because if not, it's empty; but if so, how fruitful God can make those steps!

  7. Oh yes Lent IS the week after. Next Wednesday to be exact! :)

I have found myself thinking more about my internet usage in the evenings lately. Realizing that I'm not going to be filling that time with online stuff in just over a week and, well, I'm sort of really looking forward to it. :)

  8. Girl. Thank you for this. Some days I feel so stuck in the right here and right now of life that my chase feels stagnant and frustrated more than anything... That's not the best feeling in the entire world. But grace. Thank goodness for grace. And for your sweet friendship. :)

  9. I AM OBSESSED WITH RUMINATION LATELY. Maybe because I feel like I'm obsessing about all the things all the time.

Best part about that globe: IT IS A LIGHT. And the metal base can be touched to turn it on and dim it and all the cool things.

I have been spending a LOT of time thinking about my heart and the condition it's in and the way that my life is reflecting it outward... Because, it's like a mirror.

  10. Oh thank you! I know for some the open end is attractive and for others it's scary because TOO BIG. :)

Of course we'd ADORE to have you as a part of this sweet little link-up thing we're doing!

  11. YES. Matching the inside and the outside is the ever-constant balance of life. I have caught myself thinking on how I'm acting our my intention over and over again lately. Just starting with that habit has helped make space for me to breathe a little bit and set my heart on being honorable and honest with grace. (I'm not always good at the grace part!)

Thank you for being so dear and sweet. Your heart just makes mine ooze with happiness.

  12. GIRL. Sometimes I look at my phone and think that my connection to it is TOO INTENSE. But then I pick the darn thing back up again. Convenience is tricky, so tricky, because one click, one swipe, one touch and I'm there sucked back in and opening up a big old window. I cannot wait to see the fruit of this 40 days. :)

Thank you for being so engaged in this. You inspire me with your thought process and your vulnerability. It is contagious.

  13. I love that you are choosing to know your heart better after being present with whomever you are with. I think that shows a lot about your heart even before you start! Loved this video and am here to encourage you through Lent.
