milking stool ministry: john 8 & 9

Next week's notes are a little bit different, more structured, and were really encouraging for me this week. I spent more time in the bible (something I've really struggled with now that the sun is so warm and the days so much more fun) this week, focusing on Him and on the gold nuggets of wisdom in the words that the book of John has for us.

The S.O.A.P. method. You can find lots of different examples and takes on how to do this in a Google search. Some helpful (here), others overwhelming (here). But as always, my notes for your eye candy:

The verse of the week for you:
"Whoever belongs to God hears what God says.
The reasons you do not hear is that you do not belong to God."
-John 8:47

I pray that this week the verse encourages you to be especially dedicated to the act of listening, to remember that you belong to Him and in belonging, He is speaking, singing, humming over you. Maybe for the week think on, pray about, hope in what song it is that He's singing like an encouraging soundtrack to you life.

A week that talked so much about judgment is enriched by this take on removing the black and white. (Storyline Blog)

  1. John 9:3 stuck out at me as well. I think it is something that people need to hear. We get too upset and worried about what we did wrong rather than thinking to let God show his power through us. We are all sinners by nature, but I do not believe everything we do is punishment for our sins. I am looking forward to using the SOAP method next week. I have never done this before, but it looks very helpful.

Oooooh, never heard of SOAP. Like it a lot!

  3. Thank you for this post. I went to church this morning and felt very 'hungry' leaving as if I wasn't able to absorb what the pastor was trying to convey and so when I sat down to watch your video, I slowly felt that void close. I guess I just needed a little extra. So, thank you again. :)

    Thanks for sharing your heart

I have been inspired to share my journey with Huntingtons disease.

  5. I have fallen behind in my bible study, but I just watched this vlog + love your approach to notetaking this week. I'm hoping to catch up this weekend... I already feel such a difference in not reading the bible + applying the concepts to my life (not a good difference!). It's amazing how new experiences can become such a positive force in your life so quickly. Looking forward to getting catch up with Milking Stool!

  6. Oh girl, I've loved having something a little bit more structured for the last few weeks just to force me to think it through, to get a little deeper, and to ponder how I REALLY feel. :)

  7. I love when the same verse sticks out like that! :) I've realized that I am so focused on myself and how I'm doing things, when maybe, just maybe, it would help to focus on Him and what He's doing.

Please let me know what you think of SOAP. I've been struggling getting into my bible study with the spontaneity of summertime, so the structure's been really wonderful.

  8. Oh Kristen this is SO encouraging for me. I've been struggling with my bible studying lately and it's left me feeling a little bit weird about Milking Stool. You said perfect words at a the perfect time! :)

  9. Girl, I feel like I've fallen behind in mine too... I blame it on the summer sun in the evenings and spontaneous goodness that is just TOO GOOD to pass up... Then I miss that quiet time of getting centered so much. It's crazy how much of a difference that time makes in my attitude and my actions. So excited to have you as part of the community here! :)

Feel free to share with me... In fact, your words do more for me than mine for you.
