Ready or Not.

In December I read this by Addie Zierman, a woman after God whom I adore. I responded with this:
We're never ready are we? I remember hearing "God never gives you more than you can handle" more times than I can count -especially in the last few years- and thinking, but I feel so overwhelmed. And, truth be told, I always blamed it on my inability to get ready the right way… But that was so wrong, I wasn't ever ready and, truth be told, I probably never will be, but He is ready enough for me and for you and for all of us. And, that's where the grace and faith come in so valiantly. I guess ready might be overrated, though I'm still striving for it so deeply.
Then I realized my comment felt wise and it might be important to me -and even to you- later. So, I copied and pasted. Put it in "Drafts" and went on my merry, blogger's way.

Did I imagine that I'd be reading it three months later and relating it to a house? Not even a lick. But, like always, I'm surprised. I'm surprised by God's grace and goodness in providing a failure, a perseverance in our hearts, a way in our finances, and now, a home. A home with a yard, a bright red front door, a patio on which we can host many a cocktail hour (and even dinners). A home with keys that we now own.

Am I ready? Oh no. Not in the least. We own no furniture (yet) and we've got not a single clue about the money hemorrhage that awaits us. Not a single clue. But there's joy regardless of our naivete. There's a house we get to make home, a kitchen I get to make my own, a yard awaiting a humble garden. And, for those little tasks, I'm ready. Maybe, just maybe, that's all that God asks.

He asks us to know that readiness is a journey, not a destination. He begs us to forget doing ready the 'right' way and lean into being unready. Because He is ready enough. He is ready enough for the whole of us. And where we're scared, unprepared, overwhelmed, He is calm, cool, and collected. Though it may feel turbulent and unknown, He's handling all things.

So, let's strive for His kind of readiness. The type of ready that looks more like prayer escaping the depths of our soul, love infecting all who know us, hope radiating from every bit of our being. The type of ready that results of faith, not your best Girl Scout try.

We're never ready, are we? You and me both. But He is. May He make our house His home as we do the same.

How fun are these new digs?
Seriously, made myself a new home for the blog and
got the keys to a new home in a single day. Oh what fun!

I've pondered this thought before too. How I may be able to handle it, but it sure doesn't feel like it.
Congratulations on your new home! I'm sure you are more than ready, if not, you know who to lean on.

SOOOOOO EXCITED FOR YOU! 1) Get ready - the projects never end, but it's kinda fun because you get to make it YOUR space; 2) Rainy Day Funds - rainy days are always home related. Keep up with your home warranty...appliances going out or stupid mistakes can be easily solved IF YOU'RE COVERED and YOU HAVE SAVINGS; 3) POTTERY BARN - avoid making your home look too much like a catalog...a year down the road you'll look around and wonder if any of it feels like "you."

And can I just say, I'm SO EXCITED about your new blog home, too?! SO cute!
