The Year of the B.R.A.V.E

Happy New Year friends!

As we were approaching the New Year, there was a list of resolutions that involved making and breaking so many habits. They felt necessary and obligatory like this is how I would be a good wife, strong woman, hard worker, serious blogger. Resolutions that involved weight, eating, drinking, exercising, reading my bible. All good things, all meaning well, none thrilling my heart and soul.

But, after the joy of 2013, I couldn't settle for a year that is anything less than thrilling. So, I settled on a theme. A theme for 2014 that's bigger and better than any workout regime, any diet plan, any reading schedule. A theme to give me focus for the next twelve months and a purpose larger than my own every day routine.

Welcome, 2014.
Not brave, but B.R.A.V.E, an acronym with specific, exciting, meaning.

BOLD (adj) in writing, in relationships, in emotions.
RESPONSIBLE (v) with finances, with time, with talents.
ADVENTUROUS (adj) #sayyesproject, friendships, dreams.
VULNERABLE (adj) with those dear to me, about wins and losses, in faith.
ENGAGED (v) emotionally, maritally, spiritually.

What does this mean for Mr. Thomas and Me? I'll be doing a lot of the same while appreciating and savoring the opportunities where I'm doing less and doing more. There'll be making new friends while keeping the old, trying wild things while enjoying the mundane, wrestling with Him while resting in His peace, all the while writing, documenting, sharing in this little spot.

Because in 2014, I don't want to be the most popular girl (and blog). I want to be the honest, joyful, relevant girl who operates on Him, not on public opinion. I want to focus on quality, on engagement, on interaction; not on stats, on sponsors, or the next big trend. That means some will love me, others won't -which isn't a new concept, but an important reminder.

Welcome 2014, it's a pleasure to host you for the next run around the sun. Let's make the best of our time together, yes?
Are you resolving this year? Or applying a theme?
What do your expectations for 2014 look like?

  15. And, of course, I want to know what these goals are… I have some specific goals for each letter, but didn't want to get too tedious with it. :)

  17. Such good resolutions girl! I've put together a list of subgoals for each letter to remind myself of the HOW when it all feels a little overwhelming… Quality time is a BIG one this year. :)

  20. This might be the best theme for the year! I know I'm a sucker for acronyms and all, but this one is great! I am still in the process of fleshing out my goals for the year. I have ideals/resolutions for family, faith, health, my blog and my business and I'm working on measurable goals for each of those categories and the tasks aka subgoals I'll need to accomplish. I even created a free goal planning printable on the blog today just to get me going!! Happy new year friend! Looking forward to following along this year with you and your B.R.A.V.E-self!!

  24. Yes, yes, yes to all these goals! Love it! Brave (the word, not the acronym) is one of my words for the year, but I love how you put all these thoughts together. I think your goals are very similar to mine. And I'm trying to focus on quality as well - it was a little lacking towards the end of the year ; ) Found you through the Treat Yo Self link-up! : )

Feel free to share with me... In fact, your words do more for me than mine for you.

I reserve the right to remove negative interactions... This is a space to share, to inspire, to laugh, and to cry - while everyone is entitled to an opinion, no one is entitled to spread hurtful words.
